Dark day for France”: a native of Russia attacked a high school and stabbed a teacher

Dark day for France

A teacher was killed and two other people were injured when a young man attacked a high school in the French city of Arras. The attacker was armed with a knife and shouted “Allahu Akbar.” According to media reports, the attack was carried out by a 20-year-old Chechen, who himself studied at this school and was under the supervision of the French intelligence services. The last time they checked on him was the day before.

In the French city of Arras, located an hour’s drive from Paris, a young man armed with a knife attacked Gambetta High School. As a result of the incident, a teacher was killed and two other people were injured. Le Figaro writes about this.

The attacker broke into the educational institution at about 11 a.m. local time (9 Moscow time) shouting “Allahu Akbar.”

The students managed to film what was happening on their phones. The video went viral on social networks. The video, filmed from the windows of the lyceum, shows how a man in a gray jacket attacks people in the courtyard of the educational institution: one of the school employees unsuccessfully tries to stop the attacker with a chair, but falls. After this, the attacker kicks and punches him.

“This is the appointee chief,” says the voiceover. The attacker then moves towards the other person.

French teacher killed

“I heard screams,” one of the students told M6 TV channel. —

I saw that one of the teachers was lying on the floor, someone was threatening her. And then the physical education teacher came, he was bleeding from his mouth, and he told us to stay on the upper floors.”

After the police arrived at the scene, their officers neutralized the attacker.

“A police activity was completed at Gambetta Secondary School in Arras. The criminal was detained by the police,” said Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin.

The attacker killed a French teacher, and wounded a lyceum security guard (Le Figaro’s police source said his life was in danger) and another teacher (he received more minor injuries). The students were not injured.

A Chechen is under suspicion

According to Le Figaro, the attacker’s name is Mokhamed Mogouchkov, he is a Chechen born in 2003 in Russia. He studied at the lyceum that he attacked.

According to the material, the young man was under the supervision of the General Directorate of Internal Security, one of the French intelligence services. Moreover, the security forces checked him the day before.

The attack is being investigated by the criminal police and the anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office under articles of murder with terrorist motives, attempted murder with terrorist motives, and terrorist conspiracy of persons to commit crimes against individuals.

It is also reported that the brother of the detainee, Suleiman Mogouchkov, was arrested near another school. He had no weapons with him.

French President Emmanuel Macron and Education Minister Gabriel Attal arrived at the crime scene. All schools in the city were closed. The head of the Ile-de-France region surrounding Paris, Valerie Pecresse, said that “while the Middle East burns,” Islamist terrorism is again attacking France. She called October 13 a “dark day” for the country and its schools.

BFMTV later reported that police detained a man with suspicious suitcases and a backpack as he tried to break into a school located 200 meters from Gambetta Secondary School. Sappers were called to the scene.

The attack on the Lyceum in Arras occurred almost exactly three years after the murder of schoolteacher Samuel Paty (October 16, 2020) in the Paris suburb of Conflans-Sainte-Honorine. Then the Chechen Abdullah Anzorov cut the teacher’s throat and beheaded him for allegedly showing his students a caricature of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. The police who arrived at the scene shot and killed Anzorov. As it turned out later, Pati did not show anything to the students.
